This semester, our SEGway project (Simple Engine for Games) is nicely moving forward. With all hope, the Software Requirements Specifications document (SRS) should be completed by May, 2025. And, there is the distinct possibility we’ll have enough work completed for a poster submission to SIGGRAPH 2025.
Wait! What is the SEGway project, you ask? Well, the purpose of this project is to develop a game engine library suitable for use in an Introduction to Game Design course or an Introduction to Programming course. As such, anything that’s included or omitted needs to have a sound, pedagogical rationale. Meaning, we’re not reinventing the wheel – there are numerous game engines already available. Rather, we’re attempting to learn from engines that are available to create a new one that fosters learning as opposed to providing a developer everything they need to create a new game. That is, do more with less. A rather tall order, oui?
Wish us luck!
